I agree with Bill. The glow is a lil intense but overall a great layout and design. The contrasting colors of the salamander looks like it would pop as is.
love the colors and the text with the same effect as the background looks great. It does not get lost.

I was not going to comment on this, but I was taught in art and photography classes "many years ago" that a featured theme should not be looking off the page.
A "cardinal sin" in design layout. There are a few exceptions, but this is not one. Subject matter should not be looking off the page.
